Most of you probably have or will miss this, but last night I made a post containing various reviews of Sweeney Todd. There was a screening in Los Angeles last night and a few people reported about it on the IMDB board and a Johnny Depp board. Any reviews pertaining to what would be spoilers for those of you who don't know anything about the show are behind a cut. No pun intended. ;)

And now, below is the list of all songs included in the film - noted by a fan at the screening. As I state in the other post, the Ballad is not sung but the orchestration is indeed in the film. And as I also said in the other post, there's still weeks of mixing left for Tim to do so it may be put in then, but most of us are doubting it and we do understand Tim's reasoning for this. The song is sung at the audience and I think he might have felt that would come across badly in a film adaptation. Also - note that most songs were cut down, but it's most impressive how much was kept!

No Place Like London
The Barber and His Wife
The Worst Pies in London
Poor Thing
My Friends
Green Finch and Linnet Bird
Johanna
Pirelli's Miracle Elixir
The Contest
Wait
Ladies in Their Sensitivities
Pretty Women
Epiphany
A Little Priest
God, That's Good!
Johanna
By the Sea
Not While I'm Around
Final Sequence

ETA:
I replied here to a comment/request made in this entry with some general links to my resources [for the song list and film notes/reviews].

Wow, that's pretty awesome! I will miss Kiss Me (I looove how they sing it on the concert version) but I'm not displeased at all!

Me too, actually. :( But it's probably one of the better cuts. Green Finch (haha, I originally typed that Grinch Finch) and the first Johanna are already pretty unnecessary because it's only exaggerating their feelings - which we can see with just one look or line from the actor; Kiss Me does the same. And I'm just saying all this in reference to the film adaptation. Otherwise, I love all the music in this show and am upset to see anything get cut. But it must be done and I too am not the least bit disappointed!

The only song I wish they had cut is "Ladies in their Sensitivities". I really don't care for that song and pretty much always skip it. :p

Oh, and I really hope City on Fire is part of Final Sequence. I think it could be great on screen.

I believe someone said they felt the final sequence was pretty complete [therefore close to the stage show]. It's possible bits and pieces are missing, but overall it should be there. :)

Okay! City on Fire, whatever of it, is in but only sung by the beggar woman. Which I think is nice since we don't get much of her in the first place and LMK deserves as much screen time as possible. And relating to that there seems to be no chorus in the film at ALL. I asked about God, That's Good - asking if Tobias and Lovett sing the chorus of the exclaimed "god, that's good!" Hopefully I'll get an answer.

As long as her part is there, then I'm happy. Really I'm not too picky (or trying not to be) about the songs just as long as the movie is good and as faithful to the stage show as possible. :D

Hmm, I wonder if the movie soundtrack will have fuller songs. That would be nice!

haha Yeah. It might have been cut down though? But I hope Anthony and Johanna's parts are in it as I find Johanna learning Anthony's name just then is quite hilarious. I'll have to ask the person on the Sweeney board about that...

Yeah, me too! I just don't like the Beadle part. Heh.

Wait, but does this definitely mean that they'll be cutting Kiss Me? Because so much of the second half of Kiss Me is woven into Ladies in Their Sensitivities. I think that Ladies in Their Sensitivities would sound kind of odd without it. Empty, I guess is what I'm trying to say.

Especially at the end when they're all singing over each other and at the very end with the Judge and Beadle holding their notes and Johanna and Anthony going, "Oh sir, ah miss, oh sir, ah miss..."

Yeah, I do quite like that part but both versions of Kiss Me have been cut according to the people who saw the screening. And yes, Ladies in Their Sensitivities is only Beadle's part. Empty indeed, but people say Timothy Spall does a great job and at least he doesn't have to sing the whole song - it's just the first minute or so.

Thanks for that list. Very interesting since the trailers obviously raised the question how much singing there actually will be.

I don't know when and if, but would you mind if I link to this post next time I write about Sweeney Todd? :)

I agree. It's quite a satisfying list! And most felt that even though it was stated as 75% musical, that it felt more like 90%. Which is fabulous. Overall, people have said they laughed, cried, and hid behind their hands at times. :)

Well, since I got my information from other sources - countless numbers but can be credited briefly - I would rather you link to them. The IMDB Sweeney Todd board and this thread at JohnnyDeppReads. (JDR asks to not repost info but to link, though I've heard much of the same feedback/review notes from others at IMDB so it didn't much matter.)
A couple other reviews reviews:
http://cinefantastiqueonline.com/2007/10/24/sweeney-todd-preview
http://imdb.com/title/tt0408236/board/thread/88262346
(Other reviews online mostly quoted the first one linked.)

If you just really want to show everyone the song list, linking here is fine. If I find exactly where I first saw it on the IMDB board, I will let you know.

I was mainly thinking of including the message that it is a musical after all and predominantly so (not so much plot details and reviews). And I thought your songlist served that purpose very well. And if somebody wants more info one can click to your longer entry. Maybe you can link to your previous comment with the links in the original entry if you want to so that everyone who wants to can look for further information. But please don't look for further info/sources because of me. :)

I know that the staging of the Ballad could be awkward, but I really was hoping it'd go in as credits music either before or after. :-\

You think it's going to be okay without it?

(By the by, I'm not some creep, I was looking for a list of the songs and believe it or not Google took me here.)

haha It's cool.

Everyone has been very okay with the loss of the ballads. Over at the Sweeney IMDB board we did have hope for it being in the end credits at least, but no dice. :\ Anyway, most people didn't recognize any losses at all while watching the film. Even die-hard fans. Things left out didn't hit them until they left the theatre. Or not even 'til a week later. :)

Have you been seeing the reviews of the film lately? They are glowing - it's magnificent!
